We welcome the report of the Working Group on Enforced Disappearances and Arbitrary Detention.

This confirms the disturbing trend of using enforced disappearances as a tool to disrupt humanitarian operations, silence civil society and undermine the democratic process.

However, we would like to draw the attention of the Working Group to the situation of enforced disappearances in Yemen. Since the Houthis took power, enforced disappearances have been systematically used as a weapon of repression. They have abducted civilians, journalists and human rights defenders and detained them in detention centers without due process.

The Houthis also arbitrarily detain UN staff and local civil society organizations, often resulting in enforced disappearances.

The Houthi group is known to subject detainees to inhumane conditions and torture. But how many Yemenis are living in the same situation and no one knows about them among the many violations of international law committed by these militias?

The use of enforced disappearances exacerbates the humanitarian crisis and arbitrary detention. These practices constitute severe economic hardship for families, which increases their need for your attention in light of these serious violations.

Association ma’onah and the Geneva International Center for Justice urge the Working Group to intensify its efforts to document the situation in Yemen, and the international community must work to hold perpetrators accountable and ensure justice for victims and their families.

     Thank you.
