AMHRI Welcomes Human Rights Council Emergency Session Following Its 2nd March Request
The Association Ma’onah for Human Rights and Immigration (AMHRI) welcomes the decision of the United Nations Human Rights Council to convene an emergency session tomorrow, Wednesday, to address the serious developments related to the ongoing Iranian aggression against the Gulf States and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.
The Association affirms that this decision, which was adopted by a vote in the Council earlier today, represents an important step in the right direction. It reflects the international community’s growing awareness of the seriousness of the current Iranian aggression and its implications for international peace and security, as well as for the human rights situation in the region.
AMHRI further considers that this UN action constitutes a direct response to the requests made by the governments of the Gulf States and Jordan, as well as to the Association’s own formal request submitted to the Human Rights Council on 2 March , in which it called for the convening of an emergency session to address the crimes of Iranian aggression against Arab States within a clear international legal and human rights framework.
The Association stresses that the grave Iranian attacks targeting energy infrastructure and civilian areas constitute flagrant violations of international law, a clear breach of United Nations Security Council Resolution 2817 (2026), and a direct threat to the right to life and security.
In this context, AMHRI calls upon the Human Rights Council to utilize this emergency session to adopt concrete measures, including:
• Issuing a clear and explicit condemnation of the ongoing Iranian aggression
• Establishing an independent international investigative mechanism to identify and pursue those responsible for the violations
• Strengthening the protection of civilians and civilian infrastructure
• Ensuring accountability and preventing impunity
The Association emphasizes that convening this session represents a real test of the Council’s ability to fulfill its mandate in responding to international crises, and an opportunity to reinforce the rule of international law and the protection of human rights.
AMHRI reiterates its call on the international community to adopt a firm and unified position to put an end to these violations and prevent their recurrence.
