AMHRI Welcomes Bill Introduced by Rep. Rashida Tlaib to Restore TPS for Yemenis
New York – October 19, 2026
The Association Ma’onah for Human Rights and Immigration (AMHRI) welcomes the legislative initiative announced by U.S. Representative Rashida Tlaib to introduce a bill aimed at restoring Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Yemeni nationals in the United States. The legislation is co-sponsored by 14 Members of Congress and endorsed by 50 human rights, humanitarian, and community-based organizations.
AMHRI expressed its appreciation for the efforts of Representative Tlaib, the Members of Congress, and the American organizations supporting this important initiative. The Association further announces its commitment to joining the broader human rights and community advocacy efforts in support of the proposed legislation and reaffirms its readiness to coordinate and collaborate with relevant stakeholders to protect the rights of Yemeni immigrants and their families.
AMHRI emphasizes that the ongoing escalation of armed conflict, the deteriorating security and humanitarian conditions in Yemen, and the increasing risks of human rights violations associated with the conflict and regional interventions raise serious concerns about the safety and fundamental rights of Yemenis who may face forcible return to their home country.
The Association calls for full respect for relevant international human rights obligations and the principle of non-refoulement, as well as strengthened legal and humanitarian safeguards for Yemeni nationals residing in the United States.
AMHRI also reaffirms its readiness to contribute its expertise in human rights advocacy, legal analysis, and documentation to these collective efforts aimed at ensuring the protection, safety, and dignity of Yemeni communities.
